THE NEW YOLK TIMES:
BLOOMSDAY

It’s impossible to ignore what’s coming out of the Big Yolk. That’s what the NYT is for: bringing Chicago readers a glimpse of the city.

This issue we’ve chosen to highlight Iris James Garrison of Bloomsday, a New York City-based singer/songwriter who you should probably know if you don’t already.

Iris is an incredibly gifted songwriter who specializes in tender and playful indie folk songs about love- platonic, romantic- intertwined with memories of the mundane.

We asked Iris a few questions about their process and living in NYC. Here’s what they said:

What is something that makes you crack up as a musician?

The chaos of Guitar Center.

Just need to buy some strings and there is not a single employee in sight,

or there is someone describing some insane break in… etc.

Doesn’t matter where the guitar center is. It’s always so chaotic in there.

How do you un-scramble your brain?

My dog gets me out of the house for a nice walk

2-3 times a day and this gets me out of my head for a bit.

Where do you find egg-spiration in the city?

The DIY community in nyc is really inspiring to me.

I love sharing and communing with my peers, both looking up to and feeling

mutual respect and support from them keeps me going for my lil dreams!

Favorite NY venue to visit on a fry-day (or any day)?

Cassette (FKA sundown)

Favorite spot to get an egg sammich in NYC.
